Native to Argentina and Bolivia in their hills and mountains. The shape of the plants generally small, colourful cacti, globular or flattened – globular plants that usually form in small clump. Stems are usually tubercular in poorly – defined ribs. Splines vary widely even within plants of the same species. They are vigorous growers which flower quite readily with typically a large number of relatively large, showy, brightly coloured flowers which arise from aureoles usually around the lower portions of the stems. Flowers are funnel – shaped with floral tubes that often extend and curve upwards over the plant. Floral tubes features scales and may have hairs but not spines. The colour they form vary from red, white, pink, orange, yellow and two – tone colour as well.
