Description

MELOCACTUS SPECIES

Native to the Caribbean, western Mexico, America. About 30 to 40 species in the family. Known as Turk’s cap cactus.

Mature plants by their cephalium, wool, and bristle coated structure at the apex of the plant, containing a mass of areoles from which the small flowers grow.

This plant is unusual because as soon as the cephalium fully develops the stem no longer grows, but the cephalium will continue to grow until it dies.
